Weight loss is your resolution this year, and last year's, and the year before that. You want to get rid of the extra pounds, but no matter what you do you still can’t see any lasting results.
The problem with following fad diets, calorie counting, weekly weigh-ins, and sporadic exercise regimes is that they can be demoralizing and are usually short-lived.
You see some benefit, for a while, but it's usually marginal and you end up giving up.
But when you break down weight loss, when you look beyond the actions of healthy eating and exercise, it's easy to identify the root of the problem: Mindset.
Mindset is everything.
I'm a strong advocate of mind training and the power of brainwave entrainment, meditation, and hypnosis to help establish the right mindset for full commitment and motivation towards a goal.
It took me the best part of 30 years to realize that for success, you need to establish a mind-body connection that puts you on the path to your goal and keeps you there until your motivation is unwavering, period.
Of course diet and exercise is key. Without these things you won't lose weight. And the proven route is a largely plant-based diet (naturally low fat and reduced intake of processed foods) and high intensity daily exercise of 30 minutes +.
Sure, it sounds easy, but these disciplines require big routine changes. And that's where we come unstuck. Changing habits and beliefs is key, and if you can't do that then you won't succeed.
It's pointless embarking on a weight loss plan if you don't address the very thing that has been holding you back and caused you to fail year after year. Mindset.
Deep-seated self-limiting beliefs, held in your subconscious mind, will always hold you back and cause you to fail.
Weight gain is intrinsically linked to low self-esteem and confidence, usually triggered by negative past experiences.
So if you believe that you don't deserve to lose weight; that you aren't worthy of having the figure that you desire; that you are incapable of achieving weight loss; that you are good enough and that you cannot achieve what others can; then you will always succumb to the wrong food choices, and lack the motivation to exercise and keep the momentum going.
If this rings true for you, you'll be interested to read about Slimpod.
A friend who's been using it gave me the heads up and said that since I was into “all this mind stuff” I should take a look and share a review with my readers.
So here we are…
How Does Slimpod Work?
I am always skeptical of weight loss programs: “Abs In 6 Weeks”, “Drop 20 lbs In 14 Days”, etc. But Slimpod is interesting because it trains the mind, and it has also been used in clinical trials – in the National Health Service of the UK.
Bestselling Author and Behavioral Scientist, Steve Maraboli, says:
Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.
I am testament to that.
The mind holds the power , the power to motivate you, the power to give you belief, commitment and confidence. The mind is your transformation tool.
In as little as 9 minutes a day, a Slimpod session is designed to transform your eating habits and put the power of weight loss in your hands.
(Note: I'm referring to ‘Slimpod' as a program, but also to ‘a Slimpod' as an individual listening session)>
Slimpod isn't a fad, thankfully. It is a clinically developed system designed to help you gain control over your eating habits, encouraging you to eat healthier food and simultaneously improving your self-esteem and confidence.
As a result, you do not only achieve weight loss but also maintain it without starving yourself using stressful calorie counting, weekly weigh-ins and enduring the mentally damaging self-deprivation that comes with that.
The Slimpod program compliments any eating plan, cause should be combined with a healthy, balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, legumes (beans, lentils, etc), nuts, seeds, and low in processed foods and fatty meats and dairy.
Slimpods feature 9-minute voice recordings that utilize behavioral science, modern psychology, neuroscience, and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming).
The approach aims to bring about changes in perception and the development of positive choices in response to a given situation. Slimpod uses unconscious persuasion (the use of words to influence behavior) to retrain the mind and change your perception about food and yourself.
The science behind it might sound complicated, but don’t let the complexity put you off; all you have to do is listen along.
Taking Back Control of Cravings
In a nutshell, a Slimpod effectively alters the reward system etched in your brain.
It shifts the pleasure from the processed foods designed to manipulate your tastebuds (sweets, crisps, chocolate and sweet, sugar and fat-laden foods) into healthier food choices. The idea is that you gain back control of your eating habits, rather than acting on auto up-pilot.
Stress is a key factor in weight gain, not least because increased levels of the stress hormone Cortisol cause higher insulin levels, which makes your blood sugar drop and triggers cravings for sugary, fatty foods.
That's why we often turn to food for comfort when we’re under stress.
Since stress is a part of life, sticking to diet plans and making healthy food choices becomes increasingly difficult. We all know how magical a chocolate bar can be when it comes to soothing stress. The problem is, for some people, one can quickly turn to three!
Sugary snacks become a crutch, an addiction. You lose control. You can't say no.
A Slimpod session helps your mind relearn to control cravings, and reduces your emotional attachment to food.
The science behind Slimpod works on the premise that, when it comes to losing weight, your greatest enemy is not unhealthy food, lack of exercise or toxic relationships; it’s you (your mind)!
Ultimately, it is our state of mind that sabotages our efforts to lose weight, usually because of bad habits and a lack of belief and ability to commit to weight loss.

The good news is that it is possible to eat healthily without constantly thinking about sugary, fatty foods pulling your mind in a different direction.
Clinical trials have shown that Slimpod can be highly effective.
Scientific Evidence: Slimpod Clinical Trials
To test the efficacy of Slimpods, independent clinical trials were conducted at City University London.
Two groups of participants with a BMI above 25 were used for the trial: the experimental group was given Slimpod to use, and the control group listened to a non-related weight loss recording.
After the 24-week trial, a significant reduction in weight was noted among the experimental group.
The clinical trials showed that Slimpod produces favorable results and illustrates that listening to it daily can enhance self-efficacy of eating, thereby aiding in reducing weight.
A summary of the results is as follows:
- 95% of the group members who used Slimpod lost weight
- Each member lost an average of 9.5lbs, with the biggest loss at 22 pounds, while those in the control group had an average weight loss of 1.9lbs
- A significant increase in exercise and quality of life was observed
- Slimpod assisted in managing the users’ overeating tendency in high-risk situations
- Slimpod costs just 0.5% of the average cost of bariatric surgery
Further, the trial report suggests that Slimpod be included in weight loss interventions recommended by medical professionals.
Slimpod: NHS Case Study
In 2017, a weight loss project testing the efficacy of Slimpod Gold was carried out by Thinking Slimmer and Tameside Hospital in Manchester. Hospital workers were asked to undergo the 12-week programme to transform their eating habits and help them reduce weight.
As a means of support, the hospital cafeteria included a Slimpod Special in their menu. This addition featured a no-sugar, low-processed-carb food option. Desserts were excluded for a three-month trial period.
Simon, the cafeteria’s head chef, noted that almost no one missed the sweets from the menu, which along with sugary drinks and other unhealthy food have now been removed.
The initiative was a success, prompting the Chair of the National Obesity Forum, Tam Fry, to say that it was “Trailblazing” and should be disseminated across NHS.
Karen James, Chief Exec of the hospital trust, noted:
As a result of the programme, many staff says their behaviour towards food has changed. Snacking has dramatically reduced, and for many, it has stopped completely. They say they are sleeping better and are feeling less anxious and stress at work, which can only have a positive effect on the patients.
She added that the
…staff work very hard… so they opt for the instant sweet fixes. These are dedicated healthcare professionals who believe they should be role models for their patients but the food environment has been working against them.
The 3-month project yielded the following results:
- 87% of participants lost weight
- 90% noted a change in their behavior — reduced snacking and/or total loss of interest in sugary foods
- Participants reported a happier disposition and healthier perspective about food
Slimpod was also tried by an NHS consultant psychiatrist and member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Dr Gideon Felton.
After the trial, he noticed that his snacking had reduced, he ate less and chose healthier options. He described the program as “profound and life-changing”.
Dr Felton also noted that there are no psychologically harmful techniques used in the intervention.
Indeed, listening to a Slimpod while he was fully conscious and awake changed his attitude towards eating without the use of hypnosis or auto-suggestion. As a result, Dr Felton willingly recommends Slimpod.
Since the trials, Slimpod has garnered a fair bit of media attention, which has boosted its popularity as a weight loss tool. It has been featured in The Times, The Guardian, The Daily Express, and featured on Good Morning Britain.

My Thoughts, in Summary
The majority of people I have known in my life who are overweight have been in a constant state of battle with their weight. Every other month is a new diet, every New Year's resolution is based around weight loss. It's a stay of constant stress and anxiety.
People are not happy being overweight, and the weight is often accompanied by low self-confidence and self-esteem issues that prevent a person from truly living life to their full potential. And that's sad.
What I like about Slimpod is that it very much fits into my ethos of mind training.
Forget about weight loss for a moment and consider any other task or goal in your life: let's say learning the piano, training for a marathon, applying for new jobs or starting a new career, having children, putting on an event or doing live speaking, deciding to fix something in your house or building something instead of paying someone else to do it.
All of these things require a mindset of belief. They all require you to overcome self-limiting beliefs about yourself. Usually these self-limiting beliefs are rooted in past negative experiences, which have left a scar on your subconscious, which is telling you that you're not very good at something; that you are likely to fail, that you don't deserve to be successful or happy.
All of these things require a commitment to learning and progression. They require a commitment to being patient with yourself and learning about yourself. All of these things entail a journey of self-discovery, of being open to a new way of doing something and breaking old habits that have held you back from discovering new things in life that you have a potential talent for.
All of these things are no different to weight loss. So rather than focusing solely on calories and what type of diet is best, the focus should be on self-development: on developing a mindset capable of overcoming negative behaviors and replacing them with positive behaviors that lead you to make better choices.
This is very similar to a person who is getting out of the cycle of toxic relationships. Often people will come out one negative relationship and then find a partner with very similar traits and experience exactly the same type of relationship again. In the same way, people jump from one weight loss fad to another, experiencing the same results again.
Slimpod takes the focus off of the obsession with food and calories, and instead goes to the root of the problem, which is mindset. Once you conquer your mind, you will conquer your weight loss.
You won't just lose the weight, but you will keep it off and maintain a more sustainable, healthy weight – because emotional eating and unhealthy food choices caused by stress and anxiety will no longer rule your life. You will be strong enough to say no. You will be strong enough to recognize when your willpower is being tested and you will respond accordingly.
I believe the journey will go beyond Slimpod. Because once your mindset begins to strengthen, and your commitment and your desire to develop yourself grows, you will continue to build a better you.
Naturally you will want to exercise more, to make healthier choices, to build better relationships, to improve your work-life balance. You will move on from being that person that was stuck inside that overweight body, limiting yourself to this narrow view, to someone who is open to possibility and opportunity, open to growing in all areas of your life.
Don’t limit expectations of yourself and settle for anything less than what you are truly capable of achieving. – David Goggins
