I'm a fan of all things brain entrainment, be it done through frequencies or voice.
I enjoy subliminal messaging, guided meditations and self-hypnosis, and have been using these types of audios for many years.
Selfhypnosis.com is one of a few stores I use to buy my hypnotherapy downloads, so I thought it would be useful to provide a review of the store: who's behind it, what products they sell, and what you can expect.
Below I dig down into everything from the authors and their credentials to the sound design, quality, pricing and more.
About Selfhypnosis .com
The store offers programs for a broad range of physical, psychological and emotional conditions.
They have been in business online for 16 years – in fact they used to be called Hypnoshop back in the day – and the hypnotherapists themselves have been practicing for a lot longer.
The store carries over 175 programs.
The catalogue includes but is not limited to the following areas:
- Addiction
- Stress and anxiety
- Weight loss
- Habits
- Sexual dysfunction
- Fears
- Phobias
- Relationship problems
- Personal development
All programs are downloadable after purchase as high-quality .mp3 files, and the programs are also available to buy as CDs.
Once you have made your purchase, you can then install an app for either iOS (iPhone) or Android and access your programs on there.
I would recommend downloading the files to your computer first, though, as that way you will have a permanent copy that you can share among your devices whenever you please.
The Authors Behind Selfhypnosis .com
Renowned hypnotherapists Barrie St John and Donna Lee head up the SelfHypnosis team, but the team consists of 6 people who share in developing the scripts and creating the audios.
On many of the audios you can choose which voicing you want from one of two author's. This is a new feature for 2021 and not all the programs have this yet, but you will see this option increasingly rolled out across the site.
Here's an overview of each member of the team. I think you'll find this useful because each person has a different accent and this will help you choose your audios accordingly.
1. Barrie St John
Barrie is a seasoned hypnotherapist. He is a member of the U.K. Guild of Hypnotist Examiners, and a member of the American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming.
He voices his audios with his British accent, which has a slight northern tinge to it, providing a warm and comforting tone. I enjoy Barrie's audios for their soothing and hypnotic properties.
2. Donna Lee
Donna is a professional hypnotherapist and counselor. Originally from New York, Donna provides counseling for clients of all ages.
As a Brit, I love Donna's US accent. Her delivery and tone is alluring and has that whispering quality to it, which some will associate with the type of voicing on ASMR recordings.
I am a real fan of female voicing on my hypnosis audios, and Donna's voice is a joy.
3. Timothy Rowe
Timothy is well trained in the wellness industry, having worked as a therapist, meditation teacher and awareness facilitator for 25 years.
His accent is typically British: engaging, clear, and consistent in tone. One could imaging him narrating an interesting documentary.
4. Deborah Dewey
Deborah is from the United Kingdom. A clinical hypnotherapist by profession, she is also a Detox specialist.
Deborah's British accent has a soothing, spiritual tone, which is perfect for relaxation and deeper consciousness programs.
The final two members of the team (along with Barrie) write scripts and don't voice audios.
5. Alan Davidson (lead script writer): a professional hypnotherapist of 25 years and seasoned script writer.
6. Terence Watts: a professional hypnotherapist of 30 years, and an author of 27 books and numerous training courses. w
Self-hypnosis is a journey worth the undertaking as the benefits are limitless.

Selfhypnosis Recordings: Quality & Sound Design
Since everything is digitally produced these days, ‘recordings' sounds like such a dated word, doesn't it? But these audios are voiced, so it's relevant to use that here.
And that's one area where I really commend Selfhypnosis.com. The programs are very well recorded and the quality shines through.
Quality really does matter when it comes to hypnosis audios. There are so many elements of the sound that can be off-putting. For example, pops on the voice, glitches on the recording, poorly mixed backing tracks, invasive sounds, and crackle and low quality in general.
The voice is everything in hypnotherapy; it must sound like you are in the room with the therapist to be effective. And as a sound engineer myself, I can tell they use a professional recording studio.
All the Self Hypnosis audios use relaxing music underneath, which is designed to help you fall under hypnosis. The music is very much in the background though, with the voice taking an up front position in order to penetrate your mind.
You'll occasionally hear 3D style voice effects that act as reinforcement for the programming. These are like repeated, echoed words that kind of swirl around and enter your headspace. It's really entrancing.
Example Program: Magical Forest
One of the most recent audios I have bought is called Magical Forest. This program is designed for creative relaxation and I use it to inspire myself for making music, and even writing for my blog.
Here's an overview so that you can get an idea of how the programs work:
The soundscape can be imagined as a forest, where the only sound you hear is a bird signing softly and a light wind blowing through the trees.
The script describes the wildflowers that line the paths as you meander through the landscape. You walk leisurely along while the sun peeks through the trees, warming your skin gently.
This is typically how a scene is set by the hypnotherapist. In this instance, you fall gently into this magical place through Barrie's guidance.
I've recently bought a course called Overcome Anxiety, too. This is one of the Super 7 Series, which provides 7 audios to be listened to over a 30-day period.
You will see other titles under the Super 7 Series for weight loss, confidence, and depression. If you want a program to follow in any one of these areas this is the way to go.
Selfhypnosis Pricing
A digital .mp3 download is priced at $14.99, and a CD is priced at $22.49.
You can of course get the download and then burn your own CD; that way you pay less and don't have to wait for the postman.
But if you don't have a CD burner in your computer then the CD might be the best option for you.
Amazingly, shipping on CDs is free! However, note that all CDs are shipped in plain packaging, so you won't get a CD with lovely artwork – it's just like a blank CD.
When you consider that a one-to-one hypnosis session can cost in excess of $75, buying audios to use at home works out at a far more affordable rate.

Hi Alina,
Thank you for your kind comment! I’ve found the audios from SelfHypnosis.com to be very effective for managing anxiety. Their scripts are exceptionally well-written, and it’s clear that their experience in the field really shines through.
