As you probably know, your unconscious mind is a pretty powerful beast.
By learning to influence it, you can make some pretty drastic breakthroughs, starting today!
Even if you don't realise it, your unconscious mind pretty much runs the show in your life. It helps determine how much money you earn, how happy and successful you are, and what you believe to be true about the world.
It affects your motivation and goal achievements; how much you trust your partner; what you see as “your place” in the world; how much you smoke and drink and get wasted; and a whole lot more.
In short, your unconscious mind dramatically shapes your experience of life. But, the good news is, with a bit of time and practice, it's totally possible to influence and reprogram your unconscious mind.
In this article, I'll explain some of the best ways I've learned to influence the unconscious mind, so you can open yourself to experience more success in pretty much any area of your life.
If you've ever felt like it's “impossible” to make any more progress, I can pretty much guarantee that the most effective way to make big breakthroughs is by influencing your unconscious mind. Let's get to it…
How NOT to Influence Your Unconscious Mind
Before we get started, it's worth pointing out that it's pretty difficult to change our unconscious by simply consciously “thinking different thoughts”.
The main problem with this is that our unconscious mind is, er, UNconscious.
This means that simply *consciously* wishing to be richer or more confident is kinda like giving instructions to a Dutchman in Mandarin; it just won't make much sense.
Instead, we have to learn how to communicate in the language of the unconscious mind…
3 Core Steps to Influence The Unconscious Mind
1. Learn the Language of the Unconscious
The first way to influence your unconscious is by speaking to it in a language it understands. This isn't English, or German, or French – or whatever other language you speak.
Instead, the language of the unconscious mind comprises EMOTIONS & IMAGES.
Simply put, when you experience a lot of positive emotions, super-charged with big, bright pictures of you “succeeding”, you will have a far greater chance of influencing your unconscious programming.
This may sound a little strange, but it's actually how you programmed yourself in the first place.
For example, “bad” programs and beliefs are often installed when we experience powerful negative emotions, coupled with big, bold pictures.
So, when you got publicly rejected by a potential partner growing up, and this really embarrassed you, and you replayed the “movie” of what happened over and over again in your mind, you successfully programmed yourself to be embarrassed of asking for a date.
This may still be affecting you now.
Conversely, if you made a really good sale one day at work, which made you feel amazingly powerful, and you replayed what happened in your mind again and again just because it felt so awesome, it's likely that after that moment you saw yourself as a competent, successful salesperson.
This would ultimately help you make more sales.
It's all about belief.
So, the key to influencing your unconscious mind is to feed it really compelling, bright pictures of you at your best.
You need to make believe, and then you'll believe it.
One note of warning: if you speak to your unconscious mind with negative emotions and scary pictures, it won't stop and say “oh no, this isn't good, I won't accept this”. Instead, it will act on your every command.
So, be sure to speak to it as often as possible in an encouraging, compassionate way.
Don't dwell on past failures. Make the most of reinforcing positive beliefs when good things happen.
Keep your past (and future!) successes front of mind.
If this is hard, focus on what you want from life instead.
Get excited about what the future holds for you.
Feel the feelings of success, and over time your unconscious mind will dramatically change.
Don't dwell on crap experiences. Dwell on great ones. Or make some up.
The unconscious mind has real difficulty telling the difference between a “real” memory and a vividly imagined “fake” memory.
So use this glitch in the Matrix to your advantage by imagining massive success for yourself – and your unconscious will believe that you have already achieved it!
If you haven't tried visualisation consciously before, you might like to read this post and then come back to this one.
If you do nothing else in this article, make sure you try to visualise the experience.
Just by feeling more positive emotions and visualising empowering pictures, you will make giant leaps to achieving your goals. Seriously. But if you really want to make an impact, read on for a few more tips
1. Go Deeper
One thing worth bearing in mind is that our unconscious mind is hidden from us.
This is a good thing, because if it wasn't we'd drive ourselves crazy with all the random thoughts we process in a given day / week / month, etc, and we'd never get anything worthwhile done.
Our beliefs would change 100 times a day!
So, how do we access the unconscious mind more readily?
Well, we pay a visit to the unconscious mind – which can be accessed through the realms of low frequency brainwave activity – like that found in meditation.
In case you're not up to speed on brain frequencies, here's a quick synopsis:
Basically, at the moment your brain is probably operating primarily with beta waves. These are fast and active and allow you to think and multitask and access memories, etc.
There's lots going on. Effectively, you're awake and lucid.
When you're asleep and dreaming, your brain is accessing a range of waves, but mostly delta waves. Delta waves are slow, so slow in fact that we find it very hard to remember what's happened consciously. This is why it's so easy to forgot dreams we were having moments ago.
Anyway, theta waves (low theta on the spectrum, which ranges from 4-8hz) can form a “portal” between the dream world and the waking world.
If you've ever experienced that lovely warm, cosy place just as you are dropping off for a nap, that's what I'm talking about.
And the good news for you is that lots of impressively titled brain experts believe that these brain waves provide a “door to the unconscious mind”.
So, in short, if we can communicate with our unconscious using positive emotions and bright pictures, and do this while in the realm of the right brain waves, we're laughing.
So how do you get your brain producing these waves?
Well, you can either learn to meditate like a zen monk (highly recommended).
Or, you can cheat (like me) and use brainwave entrainment audio. Good ones include Deep Meditation, Spirit Guide, God Consciousness or Spiritual Awakening
Simply lay back, put on your headphones, breathe deeply, let your mind go…
Feel the positive emotions and embrace your thoughts, intuition and let spiritual awareness consume you.
Repeat.
For best results, spend a few minutes each day in this state. And then…
3. Chill Out
My final tip for influencing the unconscious mind is to relax and trust your unconscious to back you up.
This can admittedly be tricky, but it's essential for success.
You can't micro-manage the unconscious. It's UNconscious for a reason!
Stressing about what's happening is a very conscious activity. Don't bother with it.
Instead, spend a few minutes each morning or night (or both!) vividly imagining what you want, whilst feeling the positive emotions.
Then… let go.
Put it out of your mind!
Be present in the moment.
Funnily enough, our unconscious resources are only available to us NOW. If we're off in our heads stressing about what's happening, we'll jam our unconscious, which is no good whatsoever.
By all means create a healthy, positive expectation of what might happen in the future.
“I'm going to smash my sales target this month”, or “I'm gonna meet an awesome person soon” are all fine, as long as you let go of attachment to the outcome.
Don't allow neurosis and stress to enter your mind; just let yourself believe that something big is going on behind the scenes.
Don't undo all your good efforts by stressing that it's “not working quickly enough”. Chill out, and you'll make massive gains in no time.
Recap
To recap: use strong positive emotions and big bright pictures (visualisation) to “speak the language” of the unconscious mind.
Use meditation or brainwave entrainment such as binaural beats to better access the unconscious mind and influence it faster.
Spend a few minutes a day doing this, and then LET GO. Forget about it.
Within a few days or weeks you'll catch yourself thinking in totally new ways. And then when you take action with these new unconscious beliefs, you'll inevitably get more of what you want.

Great article indeed! What exactly happens at each level of positive emotions and bright pictures? Its really true that the conscious and unconscious mind operates at what are known as slips of the tongue.

Hello,
I liked to read your article, but let me just ask a few question about this topic. I am trying for a long time to improve my memory und I found a book (instant memory by the institute of advanced thinking), which concludes to tense and then relax specific muscles to give commands to the subconsciousness.
1) Although I practiced this technique for a couple of weeks I could not see any improvements. Do you know any relaxation techniques with which I can influecne my subconsciousness.
2) Can I improve my memory/concentration with Autosuggestion?
I am thankful for every answer.

Try a 40 Hz binaural beats track like this one: Research shows that stimulation of gamma should enhance long term memory capacity. This key will enable the processing of information directly to and from human memory via gamma, the hippocampus and the temporal lobe. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26410513)

What’s the point in all this? Just seems like a trick to fool your consciousness into believing all is right in the world
bbfreak says
Not at all. This is about taking your consciousness to another level. Opening your mind to possibility beyond what you perceive when in the pre-conditioned state of mind you are used to.
Anthony says
All that is wrong with the world came from the wrong subconscious mind in the first instance. If we can all reprogra.m our minds…
bbfreak says
Yes, Anthony, I agree. So much of what controls our negative habits is stored in the subconscious mind.
Stephen Fleming says
How long does it take for brain to create new neural pathways (with visualization). Also, is visualization more powerful than affirmations?? as I have heard a self-hypnosis expert say that affirmations almost always don’t produce the desired results for most people because this method doesn’t reach subconscious as easily as you do with visualization method.
Thanks in advance.
bbfreak says
That sounds correct to me. Affirmations have to be practiced often, almost daily to take root, but hypnosis penetrates on a deeper level. Thing is though, you can practice visulaisation with affirmations. If you record your affirmations over music, you can then visualise while listening. This would make the process more complete and powerful.
